The Sal. Oppenheim Collection is still relatively young given the long history of the Company. The collection’s own history began in the late 1980s when the Frankfurt office was adorned with works of contemporary art and continued when the company moved into an extension built at the Enggasse office in Cologne, which was filled exclusively with art from the post-war period. This includes commissioned works such as the large-format Waterfalls by Günther Uecker and the “Erinnerungen” series (reminiscences) by Ulrich Erben.
In subsequent years the collection was continually expanded with paintings, sculptures, drawings and video art. Today the collection focuses on internationally-known artists such as Sigmar Polke, Sol LeWitt, Christo and Hans Arp. Young artists such as Julian Opie, Tim Eitel and Martin Klimas are also represented. Art informel, represented by Hans Hartung and Emil Schumacher among others, is exhibited alongside pop art by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
The Sal. Oppenheim Collection is managed by our own curator who makes the works accessible to clients and staff – usually in the form of guided tours.
