Over 200 years of company history

Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. stands upon the foundation of a more than 200-year history. Since its formation, it has experienced and survived no fewer than eleven political regimes. With the introduction of the euro in 2002, the Bank experienced its seventh currency reform.

The history of Sal. Oppenheim, run by seven generations of the Oppenheim family through upheavals and crises, has certainly been eventful. A new chapter began in March 2010 with Deutsche Bank as the new owner.
As an independent bank within the Deutsche Bank Group, we serve our clients with the support of a strong alliance. We can rely on the global expertise of one of the world’s leading banks whenever we need it.

Experience based on tradition
The foundation of our Bank was laid in 1789, when at the age of just 17, Salomon Oppenheim jr. formed a commission and exchange house in Bonn. At that time, the French Revolution was spreading from France across Europe. The young businessman soon moved his activities to the trading metropolis of Cologne...
