People with disabilities are frequent users of the Internet. However they are often faced with technical access and navigation barriers due to their disabilities.

For this reason, the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) established access guidelines in 1999 to provide easier access to the Internet and the information available on it for people with disabilities. These guidelines were also incorporated into the German Federal Ordinance on Barrier-Free Information Technology (BITV), implemented by the federal government in July 2002. The ordinance regulates the design and restructuring of public information sources in accordance with the Equal Opportunities for Disabled People Act (Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz – BGG).

To ensure unrestricted access to all information, accessible websites must fulfil a series of content, design and technical requirements stipulated by the BITV, which are divided into two levels of priority. The Sal. Oppenheim website is considered largely accessible due to the following features:

  • Content and layout are completely separate from one another
  • Accessibility of content is guaranteed without style sheets or JavaScript, text-only browsers or via screen readers
  • Colours and contrast have been optimised
  • Text size can be changed as desired
  • The keyboard can generally be used for navigation
  • Additional information is available to explain links (known as link titles).
  • Current W3C technology has been adopted with validated code

At Sal. Oppenheim jr. & Cie. AG & Co. KGaA and its subsidiaries, we are conscious of our responsibility to protect and secure the data entrusted to us and place great importance on taking all the necessary measures to guarantee this. You can find a detailed statement on the protection of your data here.
