Hedge funds

Hedge funds are investment funds which are subject to only a few restrictions in their investment policy. In most cases they concentrate on generating high returns where the risk is correspondingly high. As well as equities and bonds, fund managers may invest the fund assets in derivative financial instruments and work with short sales. Hedge funds owe their name to the use of these instruments which can also be employed to hedge investment risks.
