Sal. Oppenheim has a presence at five locations within neighbouring European countries: Luxembourg, Zurich, Geneva, Vienna and Salzburg. The bank’s major German subsidiaries are based in Cologne and Wiesbaden.
In 1973, Sal. Oppenheim and the Amsterdam-based bank Pierson, Heldring & Pierson formed Oppenheim Pierson International S.A., Luxemburg. Six years later, Sal. Oppenheim and Pierson acquired Schoop, Reiff & Co. AG in Zurich. Sal. Oppenheim ended the partnership in 1992 following the merger of Pierson’s parent company Amro with ABN, in order to maintain a corporate culture that values the preservation of independence. Instead, the Cologne-based bank established its own subsidiaries in Luxembourg and Switzerland, and since 2001 the Switzerland subsidiary has had a presence in Zurich and Geneva.
Sal. Oppenheim opened a new branch office in Vienna, in 2001. A further office was opened in Salzburg in July 2002, to reflect the cultural and growing economic significance of the Salzburg area.
The bank has since realigned its structures to accommodate its foreign commitments. In 2003, the bank bundled the activities of its subsidiaries under the name Sal. Oppenheim International S.A., a Luxembourg-based holding company.
